This song comes from Dusty Springfield’s album Where Am I Going? (from 1967, in case the cover didn’t give it away), released a couple years before she went to Memphis to record her most famous album, the excellent Dusty In Memphis. Like much of Springfield’s work, Where Am I Going? works in the realm of girl-group pop, swinging Motown-influenced soul, and other sweet, pleasant, classy nightclub type of sounds. (The American version of this album contained my favorite version of Burt Bacharach’s “Look Of Love“). “Take Me For A Little While” has a killer intro, irresistible and stunningly simple in the same way as Evie Sands’ “I Can’t Let Go.”
p.s. Turns out the reason that it sounds like Evie Sands is because Evie Sands recorded it first.
