On his recently released song “Please Love Me,” Liam Bailey sings his hooks as if he might be auditioning for the Heptones (see last post). An English singer apparently discovered by Amy Winehouse, Bailey put out an album in 2011, Out Of The Shadows.  It was produced by Winehouse’s star producer Salaam Remi (also known for his work with the Fugees and the rapper Nas in the 00s), but I haven’t heard any of it.  The song “Please Love Me,” on the other hand, was recorded — as the A-side to a recently released single — several months ago for Truth & Soul, the Brooklyn soul/funk label (sort of a lesser-known sibling of Daptone) behind the last two Lee Fields’ records.  I don’t know what Bailey sounds like working with Remi, but I see no reason for him to leave the Truth & Soul guys.
