I recently watched the movie Under The Cherry Moon, the sequel to Prince’s first movie, Purple Rain. Under The Cherry Moon is, as you would imagine, priceless, mainly in the so-ridiculous-its-good kind of of way. Its not not as good as Purple Rain, mainly because it doesn’t have any of the vintage Prince performance scenes that make Purple Rain worthy of repeat viewings. Prince plays what amounts to a male gigolo in the south of France, until he falls for Kristen Scott-Thomas, here making her film debut. Prince has a sidekick in his seducing-wealthy-women business, played by Jerome Benton, whose brother, Terry Lewis, was the bassist in one of Prince’s side projects, the Time, and who later formed half the production team Jam & Lewis. The Prince album Parade serves as the soundtrack for the movie.
Top 3 Quotes:
Of Prince’s character: “He lived for all women, but he died for one.”
“I must have that disease, what’s the name of it?” “It’s called stupid.”
“Maybe if you took off your chastity belt you could breathe a little more better!”
After this movie, Kristen Scott-Thomas’s acting career really took off, but Prince didn’t quite manage to keep up. . .
