The Honey Delegation

Delegation, a soul group from England, had a brief career — they formed in the mid-70s and dissolved in 1982. Most of the time its easy to see why the band didn’t last long; during a time when musicians like Marvin Gaye, Prince, and Chic were releasing innovative and exciting albums, Delegation recorded fairly formulaic R&B that failed to stand out. But Delegation’s debut album, The Promise Of Love, contains one near-perfect groove: “Oh Honey.” It’s got big washes of harmony, a delightfully chintzy keyboard motif to go with a cheesy declaration of devotion, and a slow, deliberate bass that seems to keep pulling everything back to where it started. It cracked the top ten in the U.S., and its not hard to see why.

(I think you could make a nice mix that only contained songs referencing honey in the title.)
