Soul as a Straightjacket: Kelis and Aloe Blacc

I wrote about the new albums from Kelis and Aloe Blacc for Splice Today. Kelis’s Food is her first pop-soul effort, and at times the smooth environment contains her considerable talents. But she still shines next to Blacc, who has been making boring, over-serious soul for years.
