Iamsu, Derek King, and the Bay Area Template

I wrote about two new albums from the Bay Area–Iamsu’s Sincerely Yours and Derek King’s Fake I.D. Both artists are intent on following a certain approach that identifies them as part of the Bay scene, so I talk about the advantages and disadvantages of following a template. Below, a track featuring both artists, “What It Do,” which leans heavily on ’80s R&B.
