There Goes Gravity

I reviewed a memoir by the music journalist Lisa Robinson. She’s had more experience in pop than almost anybody, but spends a lot of time rehashing the same old rock history that has been dissected countless times.

Reduced by Rubin

I wrote about Rick Rubin, one of the world’s most successful music producers, for Firedoglake. See the piece here. Rubin started out producing foundational hip-hop recordings, and then moved into rock for a long time. In 2013, he helped Eminem, Lady Gaga, Kanye West, Black Sabbath, the Avett Brothers, and Jake Bugg. His best work comes from variety and first-time encounters with new artists. Below is a nice track he put together with the country singer Jennifer Nettles, his first production to be released in 2014.
